In today’s Destiny Weekly Update article on the Bungie blog, Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague provided some details on one aspect of the upcoming patch. Referencing a remark in last week’s weekly update article about how “Not everyone wants to see or hear a game the same way,” DeeJ revealed that the upcoming update will open up audio mix options and colorblind support within Destiny.
Audio Changes
Jay Weinland, Head of Audio at Bungie, provided a few details about why the company decided to provide sound mixing options to players:
According to Weinland, players will be able to alter the game’s volume, which includes dialogue, sound effects and music, as well as chat volume. This will allow Destiny players to focus on in-game sound when playing alone and chat when playing with friends. This is an especially positive addition for those players whose headsets don’t let them distinguish which sounds they’re increasing or decreasing while playing.
Weinland also shared that players will be able to mute the music entirely if they desire, allowing them to listen to their own music instead.
Finally, Weinland revealed there will be an audio Easter Egg introduced into the game with the new update. While he didn’t offer any hints as to where it will be located, we’re sure it won’t take long for players to discover its location. We’ll be interested to see what it includes and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another Destiny loot cave reference.
Colorblind Support
When it comes to Destiny, being able to distinguish colors can be a helpful skill. Unfortunately, some players see the game differently, which can cause some frustration while playing. Fortunately, Bungie understands and will be adding a Colorblind Mode for those players who need it.
Brad Fish, the User Interface Engineering Lead for Destiny, offered an explanation on the addition:
The team at Bungie are working their technical magic to allow players to choose the color scheme that works best for their vision. And even for those players who don’t experience colorblindness, the change of color scheme may still be a fun alteration within the game. Sometimes the simplest changes can add new excitement to the way a player interacts with what’s happening on the screen.
More to Come
These are only two small parts to the upcoming 1.1.2 Destiny patch, but we’re sure to see more details in the coming weeks and months. While there’s no current release date set for the update, we expect it will be coming around the same time as Destiny’s next expansion, House of Wolves.
